Cancer Screening in the Rainbow Community

  • ACCKWA 639 King Street West Kitchener, ON, N2G 1C8 Canada (map)

Dialogue groups provide an opportunity for participants to engage with members of the local community on specific issues of interest. Community members with specific expertise in the evening’s topic are invited to co-facilitate the discussion.

This month Arti Mehta, Coordinator for Get Screened: Promoting Cancer Screening in LGBTQ Communities will be leading a discussion on "Cancer Screening in the Rainbow Community".

Did you know that LGBTQ communities are less likely to get checked out for colon, breast/chest and cervical cancers but many of us have higher risk factors for some of these cancers? In this workshop, we will learn about how to get checked out for these three cancers, LGBTQ-specific risk factors, and other preventative tips. You can find out more about Get Screened at

Arti Mehta is the Coordinator for Get Screened: Promoting Cancer Screening in LGBTQ Communities, a program of the Canadian Cancer Society. Get Screened trains LGBTQ peer health ambassadors to speak to their friends and families about the importance of colon, breast/chest and cervical cancer screening to help detect cancer early when it is most treatable. Arti has been working in health promotion with LGBTQ communities for 12 years, and specializes in cancer screening and prevention in LGBTQ communities.

We hope that you can join us for this conversation.
