Coming Out to Breakfast

  • Queer Night Out Waterloo Region MeetUp (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We have received a few requests to restart our coming-out discussion groups on a monthly basis - though with a preference to host the event on a weekend rather than a Wednesday night. We are joining with our partners at Queer Night Out to make this possible!

Finding a space to book on a weekend has proven challenging, so we thought we would start with a discussion over breakfast on a Sunday morning! We are starting quite early, but this should allow us to chat before the location gets too busy. We will be hosting the group on a monthly basis, on the 4th Sunday of the month (on a trial basis to start).

The group will be facilitated by one of our group organizers who also has over 15 years of experience facilitating peer-support groups within Waterloo Region's Rainbow community. While obviously participation in the group is not anonymous, we will be asking that all participants try to respect the confidentiality of individuals participating in the breakfast conversations.

Note that to better manage all RSVPs, we are asking individuals to get location details and RSVP via the Queer Night Out Waterloo Region MeetUp group. If you are not registered with MeetUp, contact us to let us know you are planning on attending and we will pass on the location details.

Wednesday Night Discussion Group

Discussion groups are informal gatherings with participants setting the course for the evening’s discussion. Everyone is encouraged to bring along newspapers, magazines, academic articles, or other media likely to be of interest to the queer community, if they feel they will stimulate discussion.

These groups are formally facilitated, though the guidelines are generally relaxed to accommodate a more social discussion environment.

The group will be held in Room 3412 in the Environment 3 Building at the University of Waterloo. Those visiting the campus can check out the University of Waterloo Campus Map for more detailed directions. The location is close to both public transit and parking (there is a fee for Visitor Parking).
